When I dropped Brody off at the vet for boarding last week, I noticed a sign saying that pedicures were half price on Tuesdays. It was Tuesday and I was planning to pick him up the next Tuesday. This was a golden opportunity to get his scary claws handled. Brody is not a fan of having us touch is feet in anyway. Its his one boundary, the poor guy. I figured these folks were pros so they could certainly handle a foot shy dog.
Yesterday the kids and I showed up to pick Brody up. The tech was just about to do his pedicure so we sat down to wait. A few minutes later I hear a yelp and a bunch of crashing around from the back of the office. I recognized the yelp and cringed.
A few minutes after that the receptionist came out to tell us that Brody had flailed so much that the tech cut a little too far down and there was some bleeding. It would be a few minutes while they got that stopped.
Twenty minutes after that the vet came out to ask for permission to sedate Brody. Apparently he would not let them near his foot to stop the bleeding and his blood pressure had gone sky high. The vet then says they should probably keep him overnight so they could treat the foot and bathe him because the bleeding had trashed the complimentary grooming he had already gotten the day before. Eek.
So I apologize to them for all the work they are having to put into a $9 pedicure (that there is a loss leader, folks). Then Anna bursts into hysterics as I try to drag her to the car. She is not prepared to leave without Brody. She does a full on ugly cry the whole way home.
This morning the phone rings at 7:30. Its the vet. They want permission to sedate Brody again. They need to treat the bleeding again and his blood pressure is high again. Anna woke up at 7:45 and asked when could we go get Brody.
*sigh*
